Most people struggle to drink the right amount of water. While this is crucial, we must also consider 'how' water is consumed. According to Ayurvedic principles, how you drink water has an impact on your overall health. Ancient Ayurveda contains various instructions for how to drink water that have been followed for millennia. Given the importance of water in human life, here are some practical yet significant Ayurvedic water-drinking advice.

1. Do not consume water in standing position.

It is better to sit and sip water than to stand all the time. Standing and drinking disrupts the body's fluid balance, which may lead to increased fluid collection in the joints, producing arthritis. Sitting and drinking relaxes your muscles and nervous system, allowing the nerves to digest meals and other fluids more effectively. Your kidneys also regulate the filtration process while sitting.

2. Room-temperature or slightly warmed water is excellent.

Avoid ice-cold water, which disrupts the ongoing digesting process and puts out the fire. Cold water reduces blood circulation to numerous organs of the body, which leads to constipation. Drinking tepid water can aid digestion and metabolism, promoting weight reduction while relieving bloating and pain.

3.  Water stored in silver and copper vessels are best for drinking.

Ayurveda has always recommended drinking water preserved in copper (tamba) or silver (chaandi) pots. Water held in these vessels can balance the three doshas in the body through positive charge. Dr. Akhilesh agrees, noting that copper contains several antioxidants and antibacterial characteristics that assist enhance the body's immune system. It also has anticancer properties. Water in the silver vessel has the ability to eliminate free radicals from the body, cool the intestines, and calm the digestive process.

4. Drink water first after waking up early in the morning.

Drinking water first thing in the morning, also known as Ushapan, is a good habit, according to Ayurveda. It aids in the elimination of numerous ailments in the body. Drinking water in the morning helps to remove toxins from the body and cleanses your intestines.

5. Only drink water when you're thirsty.

When your body needs water, it sends messages to you. Ayurveda encourages drinking water only when you're thirsty. Every person's body is unique, so drinking the same amount of water cannot be recommended to everyone. The body cannot absorb too much water, thus it is critical to understand the thirst cues your body provides you. Measure your own drinking system without feeling overly full. 

"Summer is the "Pitta Season," and the afternoon is Pitta Kaal, the hottest time of day; so, Ayurveda recommends that you consume plenty of water during this time to keep your body temperature stable. You might also make some little alterations, such as including Pitta-pacifying substances into your water to assist regulate body temperature.
